Lo-Life LAUNCH
FRIDAY 6PM July 14th B sharp
FREE ENTRY ALL AGES GET DOWN
LO-LIFE! draws on the work of West African giants such as Ebo Taylor and William Onyeabor as well as psychedelic troubadors like Rodriguez. Immy’s sound, which he describes as “lo-fi highlife” is a synthesis of his Ghanaian roots and his own experiences growing up in coastal Australia. The album was recorded with an all star band including members of Surprise Chef, Karate Boogaloo and The Senegambian Jazz Band.
Immy comes from a long line of traditional Ghanaian musicians. His father Kojo Noah Owusu is a master drummer from the Ashanti kingdom of Ghana, and his grandfather Koo Nimo is the leading folk musician of Palm Wine music, or Hilife music of Ghana.

HEKKA

SUNDAY JULY 9th at 3pm SHARP! HEKKA
HEKKA is a Sydney based instrumental trio who marries their live intensity and virtuosity with a vibrant electronic approach. The band traverses loops, pulses and improvisations to assert themselves as one of the most exciting groups to emerge from Sydney in many years.
With nods to New York’s downtown loft scene and London’s gritty nu-jazz wave, the trio moves effortlessly across anthemic melodies, skittering breakbeats and meditative landscapes to generate a sound which is iconoclastic and unpredictable. Yet while curiosity and exploration inform the aesthetic, songs remain pre-eminent. Beauty is in the clarity, and communication is always key. Featuring legends NOVAK MANOJLOVIC and TULLY RYAN and JACQUES EMERY
To celebrate the release of their debut record ‘everywhere I go my body goes with me’ due in July, HEKKA will undertake an East Coast Aus tour.
WE WILL BE SELLING COPIES OF THE LP FOR THE NICE PRICE OF $40
Here’s a sneak preview of their jazzy goodness. Expect a more electronic leaning show at Northside
