With the day starting out at 9am with DJs and unique RECORD STORE DAYreleases it continues with more DJs and more records! SAMPOLOGY, MZ RIZK, MISTA REX and more!

Come score some cheap records in our RECORD PACKS and lots of fresh records out on the day.

The afternoon is highlighted by some incredible performances. Come and see THE ROOKIES at 3pm before their album launch later that night. See ELLA THOMPSON at 4pm play three original tracks and then a heartfelt tribute to RENNE GEYER. Finally we close the mega day out with CLOSE COUNTERS at 5pm who will be releasing a sampler of their latest album SOULACOSTA II.

“Soulacosta II Sampler” — NR029 12” EP

NORTHSIDE RECORDS proudly presents a physical sampler EP from Close Counters‘ latest album “SOULACOASTA II”   The kings of sampled groove have conjured up a fresh batch of dancefloor-friendly treats and Northside Records have pressed a 12″ sampler of 6 select tracks from Close Counters recent release to be played out loud and proud, on wax! 

SOULACOASTA II is a soulful odyssey through vibrant sounds led by Finn Rees & Alan McConnell featuring contributions by local group IZY and musicians Matthew Hayes and Lucky Pereira. 

The year is 1973, and the singer is Renee Geyer. Band members include Jim Kelly, Mark Punch, Russell Dunlop and Harry Brus. Unfortunately Mother Earth never released any records, but did record many live performances for ABC’s GTK (Get To Know) music program. The program often featured Melbourne and Sydney’s finest players covering Motown hits and soul classics. Many of the musicians featured here went on to become The Renee Geyer Band and also featured in noteable Australian bands like Johnny Rocco Band and Jeff St John – as well as playing with the likes of Judy Bailey and Sven Libaek. If you like this check out bassist Harry Brus’ YouTube channel.

Ali incorporate Middle Eastern culture with elements of 70s Indonesian rock, cinematic soul, afro beat, funk and disco to create a new groove and sound straight from the contemporary and vibrant Indo music scene.

The group are bringing their self described ‘Middle eastern beats with south east twists’ to Australia for the first time.
It will be an honour to host these legends who are just beginning their world take over with a funky sound that will make them huge soon!  No record is out yet but we are assured of copies that are nearly all sold out on presales! There will be tour T shirts available and a chance to meet them after the show.

Legendary disco producer/DJ John Morales joins us for a funky DJ set and intimate instore signing for his final Australian tour before he hangs up the touring headphones! John Morales has been a firm fixture on the Australian circuit for the last 15 or so years, it’s always a pleasure when he’s in town, he has stories for days and tunes to match! Get down! Join us as he is supported by his great DJ buddies EDDIE MAC and MISTER CAM-RUN, as they lay down some sweet sounds for a Funky Fitzroy time.
Its on between 2 and 4pm on Saturday arvo a fortnight away. Of course its free and funky and there’ll be a prize for the best dancer. We will clear out the tables at Trippy Taco so we can all get down! Street Style! There will be records of his for sale and feel free to bring your own copies down for him to sign as well.

Northside Records and Bedroom Suck Records are proud to welcome into the space a local legend of bass, DON GLORI o launch his debut album WELCOME. The album features eight recordings of revolving jazz, Brazilian, soul and funk-inspired compositions which means the prize for the best dancer will be SUPER FUN!

Amazing young artist, Elsy is a Kenyan Born and Adelaide based force that is rising high! Soulful sounds bring hip hop around to celebrate her amazing debut release on Music In Exile called NILOTIC.  As a Nilotic woman she is keen to showcase her funk to the world, embarking on a national tour and bringing the heat to Gertrude Street in 5 weeks.

Check out her release ASAP, I know you’ll love it.

We are super excited to be hosting THE KING OF FUNK, the incredible RICKEY CALLOWAY at Northside Records on Friday 20th of May! Join us to Get Down with Rickey before he busts out to his Night Cat Show with Japanese funk lords OSAKA MONAURAIL.

We’re also honoured to have the Legendary Sir WALDO WEATHERS (James Brown Band 1993-2008) joining us, along with Minister for New New Super Heavy Funk, RYO NAKATA, lead singer and front man from Osaka Monaurail. It’s a funk overload! Hopefully members of the band will also join and be around to sign your records.
