Brenda is the nom-de-plume of prolific multi-instrumentalist Hudson Whitlock, who’s new album ‘BATH TIME’ is on College Of Knowledge RecordsBrenda encompasses the left-field soul sensibilities for which Whitlock has come to be recognised in cult instrumental groups Surprise Chef, Karate Boogaloo and The Pro-Teens, alongside heartfelt, introspective lyricism delivered in a sincere, delicate falsetto. Stylistically, lines can be drawn to the 1960s sweet soul ballads of The Delfonics, Jean-Claude Vannier’s vivid arrangements for Serge Gainsbourg, and, of course, the unmistakable flavour of Melbourne’s cinematic soul movement à la other Whitlock exploits Surprise Chef and Karate Boogaloo .Join us on the release day of this amazing record by an inspirational young artist. LADI 6

LIVE PERFORMANCE & Q&A

FRIDAY 6th JUNE AT Northside records

Launching her new record ‘Le Vā’ , Ladi 6 draws deep  from her Moana heritage and  one of Aotearoa’s most influential voices in soul, pop, and electronica. Her new record reviewed by Martyn Pepperell, he says,” Ladi6 sings with a graceful melancholy over a rich bed of bubbling lead synths, woozy pads, triumphant stabs, and a g-funk indebted whistle. Sitting between the ‘60s/’70s modular synthesiser experimentation of Wendy Carlos and Mort Garson and the modern ambient/electronic R&B sound of Kelela, FKA Twigs, Solange and their peers”

Join us at 6pm SHARP as LADI 6 and friends bring the Pacific Soul sound Down Unda. Yes there will be a prize for the best dancer and the show is FREE and ALL AGES.

CINTA live INSTORE this FRIDAY!

07/01/2025

INSTORE ANNOUNCEMENT! CINTA Friday January 10th at 6pm sharp! CINTA drops her sophomore album WORTH CONTROL that has been described as “Australia’s soul album of the year” it’s an amazing second album, rather than it being a chronological artistic step forward, it feels as though we’ve turned inward, taking a deeper, more introspective journey into the heart of our expression. We’ve sharpened the vision we had for our first record, and ‘Worth Control’ truly shows how we’ve grown and come into our own. Like any good musicians we’re equally enamoured by the classics as we are contemporary, boundary-stretching music, so our goal is always to marry these ideas within our own composition. This union of old and new-school creates a solid platform for our wonderful songwriter, Cinta to demonstrate the magnitude of her vulnerable and authentic storytelling. Local soul / r&b goodness to help start your year and ours. Come to the show, Grab a copy of the record then kick on to the @theevelynhotel later that night as CINTA brings in a whole bunch more friends on the bigger stage and jams the night away. Get tix for the Evelyn gig and come to the INSTORE starting at 6pm or be convinced to keep on….All INSTORES are free and funky and we do have a prize for the BEST DANCER. All instores are held on the stolen land of the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nation and we acknowledge that sovereignty was never ceded
