Fitzroy's Northside Records has been satisfying Melbourne's taste for soul and funk since 2002. Our store has a vast variety of musical styles, probably best described as 'black music:' from hip hop to soul; reggae through to funk; house through to jazz; we’ve got all sides covered. Rare and new release 45s, bass, boogie, dancehall, disco - you name it... We’re big on vinyl, but we’ve got all formats, and we add new stock to our shelves every week from all around the world.
Northside caters to music enthusiasts, dancers and DJs alike, and we endeavour to deliver the freshest new cuts. But our bread and butter is the soulful and funky local music that comes from across our continent. Naarm’s future soul; First Nations hip-hop; west coast electronica; heritage Oz jazz and beyond — we’re avid supporters and archivers of local music.
Our label friends worldwide are constantly helping to bring the freshest independent soul, funk & hip hop to your doorstep, and our second-hand crates extend through library and production cuts; scores of jazz, funk and soul LPs; disco and dance 12”s, rare 45s, electro, jungle, afrobeat and middle eastern psych… and more !
