Northside Records & Melbourne Interational Jazz Festival presents: TAKE FIVE

15/10/2024

Henry Maas’ iconic collection of classic jazz LPs is coming back to Fitzroy!

The Collection will be unveiled at 6pm-8pm on Friday 18th and remain instore until the end of MIJF on Oct 27th.  Not Online just inside.

Henry Maas opened the Black Cat Cafe in 1982 to give a home to the beatniks and freaks and jazzers and those who liked a nutty chilli burger as well. Together with his friends Toni Edwards and Mario from Mario’s, they travelled the world buying groovy cool jazz. They brought it all back to Fitzroy, and along with the band called BACHELORS FROM PRAGUE  they kept Fitzroy knee deep in Jazz.

We have recently bought the collection from Henry and he has given us his blessing to return them to the funky streets that he helped give groove.

1000 classic jazz records go out on sale at Northside Records coinciding with opening night of the 2024 Melbourne International Jazz festival. The records will be unveiled with the local legendary DJ ANDREW YOUNG playing selections from the Henry Maas Collection, alongside photos documenting the Fitzroy music scene of yore by Henry’s niece DEBRA MAAS.

Come along and TAKE FIVE or more records to instantly get the 10% discount which every musician always enjoys at Northside Records. So get down and do the DAVE BRUBECK and TAKE FIVE……..
